Monday night the No. 15 Sigourney girls basketball team was eliminated in the class 1A regional final round of the playoffs by No. 3 Montezuma 45-26.
The Savages slowed things down early and held an 11-8 lead after the first frame. The Bravettes started to get things going in the second quarter behind future Hawkeye Shateah Wetering as she scored all nine for Monte in the quarter, while the Bravette defense limited the Savages to just a free throw in the frame, leaving Sigourney down 17-12 at the break. Out of the half, Montezuma grew the lead to 20-12, but Sigourney answered with eight in a row to tie things midway through the third. From there it was all Bravettes as they closed the game on a 25-6 run over the final 12 minutes to take the win. Wetering finished with a game high 22 points. Sigourney was led by Megan Stuhr with eight. With the loss, Sigourney wraps up their season at 19-4.
