United States Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) made a stop in Wellman Wednesday. Grassley fielded questions from local farmers during the Pro Grower Solutions Winter Meeting. The majority of the questions regarded the new farm bill and recent trade agreements.
Overall, Grassley’s message was filled with optimism, “[Agriculture in southeast Iowa] is very strong. Weak prices now because of overproduction, some weak prices because of the uncertainty of the trade negotiations. But with the U.S., Mexico, Canada agreement, I think that’s going to improve the agriculture trading environment. There’s a big question about China, there’s big negotiations going on [Thursday] and Friday in Washington, D.C. Hopefully there will be an agreement at that particular time”
This was Grassley’s first trip to Washington County in 2019.
