waco-warriors-300x239-10

The WACO boys’ basketball team had a breakout season.  They finished their year at 17-5, which is the best record the program has seen in over a decade, and also the first winning season for WACO since the 2009-10 campaign.  On top of their record, though, they also dominated the Southeast Iowa Superconference in several areas.

At the end of it all, the Warriors were tops in the south division in rebounds, and tops across both divisions in assists, steals and blocked shots.  Their 49 percent clip from the field as a team was third in the south, and their average point differential of +9.9 was also third.

The Warriors will bring back most of their key pieces from this season, losing just three seniors.  Wyatt Harbison unfortunately had to sit out his final season due to injury, so that’s no on-court production lost.  The other two were Matthew Liechty, who played a key bench role, and Colton Horak, the team’s starting two-guard.

Otherwise, most of the main corps of guys will be returning: Nik Coble and Drew Kissell will be back to lead the team again in their senior season.  Gabe Reichenbach will be back in the post.  Elijah McGohan, one of the top bench contributors who got the start in the playoffs, will be back as well.  The list goes on.  After finishing six points in overtime short of the state tournament, expect WACO basketball to be right back in the thick of it a year from not.
