Three fire departments extinguished a fire south of Kalona Saturday morning. According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 11:15 a.m. dispatch was notified of a fire at 1425 Highway 1. The fire was in a cement block building, and nobody was in the household at the time. Kalona, Wellman, and Riverside Fire Departments extinguished the fire. Kalona QRS, Wellman Rescue, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, and Washington County Ambulance assisted at the scene. Alliant Energy and Farmers Electric were also notified.
