Alliant Energy is proposing an increase on their electric rates. According to a notice mailed to customers, the company is requesting the increase in base rates to “reflect improvements and investments in our electric system.” Alliant Energy is investing in more wind energy, grid technologies, more advanced meters, and controls to reduce emissions. Residential customers would see about a 25% increase. According to the company, a customer with a current bill of $82.31 with 756 kilowatt hours per month will see their bill go up $20.13 for a total of $102.44. Customers have the right to file a written objection to the Utilities Board and there will be customer comment meetings in Ottumwa and Cedar Rapids.
Written objections may be made online at efs.iowa.gov or can be emailed to customer@iub.iowa.gov. Mailed objections can be sent to Iowa Utlities Board 1375 E. Court Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50319-0069.
