Fifteen Mid-Prairie High School Students will be competing at the State Individual Speech Contest. The team will be traveling to North Scott High School in Eldridge on Saturday. The Golden Hawks have seen their share of success at the state level this year, with Evan Meader and Sierra Matthews earning All-State honors in the State Group Speech contest. Coach Christine Meader looks back on the team’s success so far, “What I really appreciated as [the] coach is that [the students] were very serious and professional about their character development. They took their roles seriously and thought about their characters, and gave them a life.”

The Mid-Prairie students competing this weekend are Olivia Caskey in acting and storytelling, Sierra Mathews for spontaneous speaking and improvisation, Evan Meader in musical theatre and improvisation, Gavin Frascht for spontaneous speaking and radio news broadcasting, Kyra Helmuth in acting and musical theatre, Lola Knight in acting and expository address, Sydnee Griffin for after dinner speaking, Dominic Helmuth in reviewing, Altynai Kabylbekova for interpretive reading poetry, Emily Marner for interpretive reading prose and reviewing, Feza Matiyabo in musical theatre, Annessa Meader in interpretive reading prose, Elizabeth Meader for expository address, Tristan Novy in radio news broadcasting, and Liza Siti for storytelling.
