A new five-year and 10-year facility master plan is being created for the Washington Community School District. At the recent school board meeting, Superintendent Willie Stone explained that one bid was received. It was from Carl A. Nelson and Company. Stone said the committee was in favor of the firm, “We feel that they’ll be able to give us what we need. And we like the fact that they’ve been in the district so they kind of know what’s going on, especially since they’re also adding the architect that has been in the district, which we thought was important, with SVPA. That we, we just feel it’s important that they add them here, and they’ll be able to do a good job.”

The total cost for the plan is just under $29,000. The plan will evaluate existing facilities including the high school, middle school, Lincoln and Stewart elementary schools, the Washington Early Childhood Center, the central administration building, and outdoor athletic complex. The plan will assess new priorities as they relate to enrollment changes. The district’s last plan was made in 2009.
