Dollar Tree will be building a store and opening its doors in Washington. The Washington City Council approved a development agreement at their meeting Tuesday. The agreement is with Greg and Lori Wiley for the Wiley Subdivision south of the Pizza Ranch restaurant. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained that the development is a win-win situation, “Basically when that gets built that will create tax increment to essentially pay back for the cost of the water and sewer infrastructure that Greg needs to extend in order to meet his obligations as a subdivider. And it also covers our assessments that we were planning to do on the East Washington sidewalk, including assessments that Greg himself would have to pay as a property owner there. And so really, we’ve just created something that’s sort of a good deal for everybody.” Prior to the development, the plan was to have the cost of the sidewalk assessed to the adjacent property owners.
The project has been reviewed by the city’s planning and zoning commission. The site plan will go before the council for review in April. The city is also working with the Wileys to set up a welcome sign on their property on the east entrance to town along Highway 92.
