The Columbus boys’ track and field team kicked off their outdoor meet season Thursday, taking fifth in Class C and 16th overall at the Steve Roth Relays in Washington.
The Wildcats had several top-five finishes throughout the night. Felix Solis took fifth in a field of 23 the 100-meter dash, running a 12.40, and Will Schwab ran a 2:15.61 800, which was good for second. The 4×100 relay team of Eric Valdez, Angel Hernandez, Felix Solis and Chance Colby took home second place, and the 4×200 team of the same four guys also took second. Solis also took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 17’5″, which was over a foot longer than the sixth-place jumper.
The next meet for the Wildcat boys will be Tuesday at Wapello, with action starting at 4:30.
