Influenza activity in Iowa is continuing to decrease, but it remains widespread geographically. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, there were nine influenza-related deaths last week and 46 hospitalizations. So far this flu season Iowa has had 53 flu-related deaths, including one child. The proportion of outpatient visits with influenza-like illness is still above the 1.6% regional baseline, but did decrease to 2.21%. Other frequently detected respiratory illnesses included 130 cases of rhinovirus/enterovirus, 63 cases of coronavirus, and 59 cases of RSV.
To help prevent the spread of illness, clean your hands frequently, cover your coughs and sneezes, contain illness by staying home when you’re sick, and get an annual flu vaccine.
