Democractic Congressman Dave Loebsack says he will be stepping down after the 116th Congress. He has been serving Iowa’s Second District since he was first elected in 2006. Before joining Congress, he spent over 20 years as a professor at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. When looking back on his accomplishments, Lobesack says the service he provided to his constituents has been his favorite part, “Service is really what it’s all about. It’s about making sure we help people as much as we possibly can. Most people probably wouldn’t realize or think about just how much help a member of Congress provides to his or her constituents. I’ve helped a lot of veterans with issues with the V.A. A lot of people come with concerns about social security, or visas, or any number of things. And I’ve been fortunate to have really great staff over the years who can help out on a lot of those issues.” Loebsack will finish out his seventh consecutive term in 2021 and join his wife in retirement.
