The Washington boys’ soccer team has waited all year to have a game where the offense took off. On Tuesday they got just that against Keokuk, resulting in a season-high scoring output with a 6-3 victory.
Zac Stout set the tone early with a blast near midfield in the second minute that connected for an early advantage. Keokuk found the equalizer in the 19thminute and the 1-1 tie stayed true heading into the break. The back and forth game continued, as Pascual Mendoza was the beneficiary of a Caleb Suchan pass to take a 2-1 lead in the 57thminute but the Chiefs once again countered. The Demons were able to take the lead for good when Luciano Marcelino found the back of the net and the floodgates opened. Gabe Zimmer, Mendoza, and Fabian DeJesus added insurance goals to preserve the 6-3 win and season sweep of the Chiefs.
Washington improves to 3-10 and close out the regular season tomorrow against Fairfield. The Washington girls saw their game against Oskaloosa get cancelled yesterday, but they did manage a 4-2 victory over Centerville on Monday. The Demons are 8-6 and travel to face the Trojans tomorrow.
