A tornado blew through Johnson County Friday evening. According to the National Weather Service, just after 6:30 p.m. a high-end EF1 tornado formed south of the Frytown Conservation Center on 500th Street Southwest. An EF1 tornado is a moderate tornado that includes wind speeds between 86-110 miles-per-hour. The tornado traveled northeast for about 27 minutes until dissolving just east of the Iowa City Airport. There was damage to rooftops, trailers, and outbuildings, as well as uprooted trees. The tornado reached a maximum width of 75 yards and brought wind speeds of up to 110 miles per hour. There were no injuries.
