Sometimes the postseason brings out the best in competitors. The best of Vanessa Mena was on display Tuesday in an opening round class 1A regional soccer game. The Columbus Community senior found the back of the net five times to lead the Wildcats to a 7-0 victory over Wapello.

Mena added to her Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division lead with 15 goals on the season. Ingrid Montero and Lizbeth Paz also added goals for good measure en route to the big win. Paz assisted on three of the scores. Liana Sweezer had a pair of saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Columbus moves to 7-6 and advance to play Davenport Assumption on Friday in a semifinal regional game.
