The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team swept Lone Tree in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader Thursday night in Kalona. IMS won game one 16-1 in five innings and took game two 12-2 in five innings. In the first contest, each team scored in the first inning with IMS plating Eli Ours on a Blake Bontrager RBI hit. Lone Tree answered with Bryce Houser driving in Avery Knock to tie the game at one. IMS kept the offense rolling with five runs in the second, two in the third and a 13 batter, eight run fifth to stretch the lead to 15. Trevor Leyden settled in on the mound for IMS, sitting down 13 straight Lions after Lone Tree scored in the first to record the win.
In game two, pitching and defense kept the game scoreless until the fourth when IMS send 16 hitters to the plate, scoring 10 runs on five hits to blow the game open. Lone Tree got two runs in the fifth with Avery Knock and Bryce Houser recording RBI hits to keep the game alive into the bottom of the fifth but IMS ended it early with a pair of runs. Eli Ours recorded the win on the hill going five innings, allowing four hits, two runs, walking two and striking out nine. London Schrock was three for three with a pair driven in and a run scored. With the sweep, IMS is now 5-3 on the year, Lone Tree falls to 6-5.
