An Austraillian bicyclist was struck by a car in Fairfield.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 79-year-old Steven Timm of Australia was riding his bike along West Burlington Avenue a block east of the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. A vehicle driven by 27-year-old Ethan Ball of Cedar Rapids was driving in the right hand westbound lane when Timm turned his bicycle in front of Ball’s car. Ball was unable to avoid Timm.

Timm was flown to the University of Iowa Hospital with injuries. The wreck remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol, Fairfield Police Department, and Fairfield Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
