Washington County’s Makenzi Marek was named the second runner-up in the 2019 Miss Iowa competition. She took the stage as Miss Pearl City. Marek received the People’s Choice Award at the Adler Theater in Davenport. This year’s Miss Iowa is Emily Tinsman. In 2017, Marek graduated from Washington High School and that summer was crowned the Washington County Fair Queen. She is currently a student at Iowa State University.
