midprairie-3

The Mid-Prairie softball team was one pitch away from a sweep of West Branch on the road in River Valley Conference play Monday but the Hawks will have to settle for a split, beating the Bears 2-0 in a game one before dropping the second contest 10-9. In a pair of games hear on AM and FM KCII, the Golden Hawks got just enough offense in the first with Jaselyn Robertson scoring in the second on a wild pitch and coming in during the fourth on a throwing error. That was enough for Mid-Prairie pitcher Cassidy Rourke who twirled a complete game shut out with seven strikeouts and just five hits allowed.

In the second game, both teams started fast, Mid-Prairie posted a pair of runs in the first on a Rourke two run homer. They would score twice more in the second before batting around in the third, scoring five times and opening up a 9-4 lead. The Bears would chip away, getting within 9-7 in the fourth as they chased Golden Hawk starter Myah Lugar. Rourke came on in game two but couldn’t close the door with the Bears scoring once in the sixth and walking it off with a pair of runs in the seventh. Georgia Nisly was three for three in the nightcap with an RBI and a run scored. With the split, Mid-Prairie is now 6-13.
