Fireworks are often used to celebrate Independence Day and in the City of Washington their use is limited to certain dates. Per the City Code, fireworks may be discharged between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. July 3rd and between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4th. There are also hours allowed on New Year’s Eve. The City’s annual firework display for the public will be July 4th at dusk at the county fairgrounds.

If you choose to set off fireworks in the Washington city limits, remember that they cannot be set off in public spaces, including streets. Also, aerial shell kits, reloadable tubes, mine and shell devices are prohibited. The state legislature approves the sale of consumer fireworks in the state, and cities may set their own ordinances regarding the use of fireworks.
