At this time last year, 18.7% of Iowa was abnormally dry, 8.6% was in moderate drought, and 2.4% of the state was in severe drought, that’s not the case this year. According to the USDA, Iowa continues to see adequate and even surplus soil moisture. In southeast Iowa, topsoil this week is rated at 59% adequate and 40% surplus. The subsoil moisture rating for southeast Iowa is very similar at 58% adequate and 40% surplus.
