For the first time since annexation discussions ignited between the City of Kalona and the Shiloh Church, the public will get to see designs for what could be.

Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says they received the work from RDG Planning and Design that will show the first designs of what possible annexation could look like. Schlabaugh said that it’s been challenging to discuss ideas without having something to show the public, “Until we get some renderings, until we get some layouts, where streets could be, the number of houses, how it could look, and so forth, it’s hard. So [RDG] will start to put that into place with the suggestions and comments we’ve garnered so far. They’ll do some trails. They’ll take a look at existing trails and how to incorporate those in with more maintained trails.”

Schlabaugh said they will present the designs at the next committee meeting at Shiloh on July 11th. There will also be an update on potential land use and financial discussions at the committee meeting.
