The baseball rivalry between Washington and Mid-Prairie renewed Friday night in Wellman and the Demons utilized one crooked number inning to come away with a 7-4 victory, as heard on FM 106.1 KCII.
With the game scoreless heading into the second inning, Washington sent 11 batters to the plate and tallied all seven of their runs. Reece Mayer highlighted the frame with a two RBI triple and Ethan Patterson brought in a run on a double. The Golden Hawks chipped away at the lead getting two back in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the fourth, in part by RBI singles from Keegan Gingerich and Aidan Rath. Trailing by three runs in the seventh, Mid-Prairie made it interesting bringing the tying run to the plate, but couldn’t cash in. Demon head coach Nathan Miller tells KCII Sports it all came together in the second. “Our bats came alive and we ran the bases really well. We also capitalized on a few mistakes that left the window open to score and that proved to be the big difference in the game.” Washington’s Chase McDole picked up a nine-out save giving up just two hits and striking out five. Cade Hennigan notched the win going three innings of two run ball. The Golden Hawks out hit the Demons nine to five and Brad Tornow led the offense going 3-for-4. Vinny Bowlin suffered the loss going five frames giving up seven runs on four hits.
Washington improves to 16-7 and they travel to Center Point-Urbana on Monday. Mid-Prairie falls to 14-10 and play Camanche at the Clinton LumberKings Stadium tonight.
