Facing the end of their season, the Mid-Prairie baseball team bounced back to push West Branch to the brink, but it was the Bears who won the district title in Wellman Monday by a 7-6 score. The first four innings of the game were played on Saturday with West Branch jumping out to a 5-0 lead before lightning stopped the contest which was picked up from that point on Monday. The Golden Hawks used the break to stop the Bears’ momentum and build their own, scoring once in the fourth, three times in the fifth and twice in the sixth as the offense got on track. Mid-Prairie just couldn’t keep West Branch off the board, giving up single runs in the fifth and sixth inning that proved to be the difference. Brad Tornow came on in relief for the Hawks, throwing four innings, striking out seven. Aidan Rath and Kayden Reinier each had two RBI. Kayden Gingerich finished with two walks. With the loss, the Golden Hawks end their season at 18-12 and say goodbye to seniors Cale Robertson and Ashton Bush. West Branch advances to play Camanche Tuesday in the class 2A substate final at Central DeWitt.
