There is no sales tax on clothing and footwear today in Iowa. The first Friday and Saturday of August each year is Iowa’s Sales Tax Holiday. It does not include Sunday. No sales tax is charged on clothing items and shoes that are under $100. The exemption includes diapers for adults or infants, belts, uniforms, swimsuits, and outerwear like coats and hats. Items that are not included are watches, jewelry, or sporting equipment like cleats. It does not include school supplies like notebooks and folders.
