The Kalona City Council will discuss moving forward with annexation of over 200 acres of land owned by the Shiloh Church.

Members of the council, along with City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, were present at a work session last week between the City, Shiloh, and Marilyn Farms. The three entities voiced they had no issues with moving forward in discussions that could lead to Kalona absorbing close to 220 acres of Shiloh and Marilyn Farm property into city limits. Schlabaugh said in his discussion with the city’s legal team that they think it’s about time to begin putting together a formal agreement, “I did meet with [City Attorney] Bill Sueppel Jr. [Monday] afternoon. He’s comfortable with where we’re at. He’s comfortable if council decides that they would like to have legal representation to start that annexation agreement document, again that doesn’t mean we do anything, it just inches us forward, that he didn’t see anything that would prohibit that from going forward.” The council will also discuss a sidewalk improvement plan. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
