Iowa’s corn crop is 15 days behind last year and 10 days behind the five-year average with 84% beginning to silk. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in southeast Iowa 80% of corn is silking and 20% has reached the dough stage. Soybeans are also about two weeks behind with 78% of Iowa’s crop blooming. In southeast Iowa only 63% has started to bloom with 21% setting pods. In the southeast district 86% of hay or alfalfa is in its second cutting and 73% of oats have been harvested.
