While most area high school students started classes on Friday, some will begin Monday as they take college level courses. The Kirkwood Washington Regional Center begins classes for the fall term on Monday. Kirkwood Washington Regional Center Director Tera Pickens encourages students taking these classes to put in the effort they require, “Students that are coming here enrolling in Kirkwood classes are creating an official college transcript. These are grades that will forever be on their transcript. They don’t get to later in their college career pick and choose to transfer the classes they were successful in; it’s a package deal. So we always stress to our students it’s so important to be doing well in your classes, and working hard, and asking for help when it’s needed as a high school student because this college record is forever.” She recommends if students have questions to discuss them directly with the instructor. The center also offers free tutoring for students.

High school students at partner school districts can enroll in classes at the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center for free. Students earn both high school credit and college credit to go toward high school graduation and college transcripts.
