The City of Fairfield has received recognition as one of the top communities in the state. In a recently completed study by backgroundchecks.org, Fairfield was named one of the 10 safest cities in Iowa. The Jefferson County seat was ranked ninth in the state for cities with a population of at least 10,000. Spencer was ranked No. 1. In order to rank the towns, the website used the most recent crime statistics from the FBI, violent crime and property crime rates, and ratio of law enforcement to public. Norwalk, Pella, Clive, Johnston, Waukee, Marion, Bettendorf and No. 10 Mason City round out the rest of the top 10. See the full list here.
