The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk cross country team begins 2019 Saturday when they travel to Cedar Rapids Prairie. The Golden Hawks are coming off of another historic season a year ago with the girls winning their second straight state title, becoming the first ever program in Mid-Prairie history to accomplish the feat. The Golden Hawks did it on the strength of Marie Hostetler who was the individual state champion for the second straight year and earned Gatorade runner of the year honors for the second year in a row. The Mid-Prairie boys had Quinn Schmidt qualify for state a season ago to maintain their presence in Fort Dodge.

This year the Golden Hawk girls open the season ranked No. 2 in class 2A as they look to defend their title for the third year in a row. Marie Hostetler is ranked No. 1 in the individual poll while Ana Fleming and Mitzi Evans are receiving votes. Joining Mid-Prairie at today’s meet in Cedar Rapids are Anamosa, Davenport Assumption, Cascade, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Clear Creek Amana, Davenport West, Fort Madison, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Linn-Mar, Maquoketa, Marion, Mason City, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Muscatine, Solon, Cedar Rapids Washington, Waukee, West Liberty, Western Dubuque and Prairie. Action continues all day at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School.
