
The Mid-Prairie boys and girls cross country teams began the 2019 season on Saturday at the Cedar Rapids Prairie Invitational. The Golden Hawk girls defended their team championship in the small school division with an overall score of 91 points, beating second place Solon with 221 points. Their score of 91 placed them second overall behind only large school champion Waukee with 69 points. The Golden Hawks were led by individual champion Marie Hostetler who won the title at the meet for the second consecutive year with a time of 18:20. Other finishers for Mid-Prairie included Mitzi Evans second, Abbagail Evans eighth, Angelina Evans 12th, Sidney Yoder 14th, Ana Fleming 16th, Jaden Yoder 22nd, Tabitha Evans 60th, Amara Jones 69th, and Emily Schlabach 75th.
The Golden Hawk boys were fifth with a team score of 123. Marion won the small school portion of the meet with their team total of 48. Top finish for the Golden Hawks came from Thaddeus Shetler in 15th with a time of 18:14. Other finishers for Mid-Prairie included Chandler Hershberger 22nd, Nathan Wallington 27th, Lucas Bontrager 28th, Jamison Stutzman 36th, Mose Yoder 60th, Luke Albright 82nd, Micah Hostetler 84th, Gunner Gingerich 89th, and Levi Stultz 93rd.
The Golden Hawks will next be in action Saturday when they travel to Central College in Pella.
