A Fairfield woman has been awarded a multi-million dollar settlement from the State of Iowa and doctors at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Isabeau Norwood will be paid following a $2.5 million settlement approved by the State Appeal Board this week. Sources say, Norwood lost both legs to amputation and became paralyzed after a misdiagnosed issue with her spine. Norwood’s issues began in 2014 and she was seen by several doctors in Fairfield, the University of Iowa, and the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, which is state-run. After collapsing, a spinal abscess and other problems were found with a magnetic scan of her back. While this settlement resolves the dispute with the state, trial starts Tuesday in Fairfield for Norwood vs. the Jefferson County Health Center.
