A Washington man will be released from prison after serving 11 months of a minimum three-year sentence. Washington County Attorney John Gish explains that last November, 43-year-old Tracy Milford was sentenced to prison for delivery of methamphetamine, a class C felony. He was sentenced in Washington County District Court as a habitual offender, meaning he was to serve a minimum of three years and up to 15 years behind bars. The definition of a habitual offender is someone with two or more prior felony convictions. Milford will be released from prison September 16 to work release with the Iowa Department of Corrections, after only 11 months in prison. Gish adds that “with few exceptions, Iowa law permits the Department of Corrections to reduce even mandatory minimum sentences with ‘earned time’ and grant early releases.”
