September in Iowa has been hotter than normal. According to State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan, last week “unseasonable warmth was also observed across the entire state with temperatures up to seven degrees above normal.” The National Weather Service data shows that in Washington in the first 17 days of the month the average temperature has been observed at 70.2 degrees. That is nearly four degrees above normal. Also, the normal low temperature for a day on average is 53.7 degrees and so far this month it has been 59.2 degrees. The highest the mercury has reached in Washington this month was 90 degrees on Friday the 13th.

Temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend with highs in the upper 70s. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
