Fieldwork in Iowa last week included harvesting hay and seed corn in central Iowa, chopping silage, and seeding cover crops. Iowa’s corn has started to mature with 18% mature in the southeast district and 68% dented. Iowa’s corn is over two weeks behind the five-year average. Across the state, 22% of soybeans have dropped leaves and the southeast district continues to be behind with 12% dropping leaves. Iowa’s corn is now rated at 12% excellent, 53% good, 26% fair, and 9% poor to very poor. Soybeans are rated at 11% excellent, 51% good, 29% fair, and 9% poor to very poor.
