Benefits for Washington County employees are changing with a slight increase in health insurance on January 1st. At the recent Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, the changes were explained with a 2% increase for all plans on the total premium. County Treasurer Jeff Garrett said the county has been doing well in recent history in regards to premium rates, “I think it’s good to highlight though that we’ve had a very good track record over the last, I think over the last 12 years we’ve had an increase of 15.5% over 12 years. That’s kind of unheard of in the health insurance world anymore. It averages about one-point-whatever percent, at times when you’re hearing of double-digit percentage increases.” Those increases are eventually split between the county and the employee. There has been no increase in the last two years. The county will stay with the self-funded dental coverage.
