On paper, Friday’s game between Mid-Prairie and Williamsburg appeared to be the defacto district championship game for the 2019 season. Despite a strong first half from Mid-Prairie it was Williamsburg that protected their home field and got a leg up in the title race with a 28-6 win. In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, it was Mid-Prairie that struck first, putting together a 10 play 68 yard drive that finished with a Brad Tornow to Jack Baker 29 yard touchdown catch. After a failed extra point it was 6-0 Mid-Prairie midway through the first quarter. The Golden Hawk defense was stingy early and they made that lead stand up into the half time break, not allowing the Raiders to get their offense on track.

Out of the locker room the Raider put together a 10 play march of their own and capped it with a Kaden Wetjen five yard touchdown run. With the extra point, Williamsburg took a 7-6 lead. The Raiders would score three more times across the games final 15 minutes to seal the win, running in 28 unanswered. With the loss, Mid-Prairie falls to 1-1 in district play and 3-3 on the year. Williamsburg improves to 2-0 in district and 3-3 on the season. Mid-Prairie will next be in action Friday when they travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg.
