
The big event is finally here for the Winfield-Mt. Union football team as they gear up for tonight’s Homecoming contest with New London. The Wolves come into the game with an overall record of 1-5 after a 62-32 loss to Lone Tree a week ago. In that game, Daunte Oepping accounted for 221 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns for the Wolves. On the season, WMU is led by Oepping through the air at 51 of 95 for 818 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. His favorite target is Juanito Piper with 18 catches for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Oepping leads the way on the ground with 768 yards and 14 touchdowns on 144 carries. Piper leads the Wolves defense with 77 and a half tackles, including three for loss.
New London comes into the game with an overall record of 4-2. The Tigers snapped a two game losing streak last Friday with a 78-20 pounding of English Valleys, behind 128 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns from Shae Summerfield. For the year the Tigers are led by Ethan Streeter through the air at 21 of 42 for 279 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. His favorite target is Blaise Porter with 11 catches for 206 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Shae Summerfield has 1,248 yards and 18 touchdowns on 115 carries. Gavin Holmes leads the Tiger defense with 40 and a half tackles, including six for loss. These two teams met a year ago with the Tigers taking an 82-8 win. Action begins tonight at 7p.m. at Winfield-Mt. Union High School.
