It was a game at half, but Washington dominated the third quarter of a class 3A district matchup in Fort Madison and pulled away for a 36-7 victory in week seven of the high school football season.
On a chilly night, both teams were feeling things out early with a field position battle developing. The Demons had the only score of the half late in the first on a one-yard touchdown run by Luke Turner and they led 6-0 at the break. The switch was turned out of half, as the Demon offensive line went to work opening up massive holes for Wyatt Stout. The junior had touchdown runs from 42 and 48 yards out where he went untouched into the end zone. Dillan Sanders joined the party defensively with a 25-yard pick-six to extend the lead and the final touches came late in the game when Turner connected with Ethan Hunt on a 75-yard touchdown bomb. The pass first Bloodhound offense was kept in check all night and Demon head coach James Harris tells KCII Sports the secondary came to play. “Coach Williams does a great job with those guys and we did a great job of mixing some things up. They watch a lot of film together and put in the work. It is good to see them reap the rewards of that hard work on the field.” Fort Madison managed just 175 yards of total offense. Turner finished seven of 15 through the air for 106 yards and Stout had 150 yards on the ground with two scores.
The Demons keep their playoff hopes alive moving to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the district. They get back on the road Friday at Fairfield (0-7).
