Homecoming week went right as planned for the Sigourney-Keota football team and it ended with an emphatic 59-6 win over Columbus Community.
The Cobras took advantage of a short field all night and capitalized on three Wildcat turnovers to allow many players to get experience in the second half. Ten players carried the rock led by Sam Sieren with 107 yards and two touchdowns. JD Stout made the most of his seven carries with 67 yards and three scores. Nate Schuster recorded six tackles and Clay Morse had a 30-yard interception returned to the house. Head Coach Jared Jensen tells KCII Sports that experience the younger guys are getting now will only help them in the future. “These guys will be competing for starting spots for the next few years. Getting them acclimated to varsity football and the speed of the game will definitely benefit us in the long run.” Columbus Community’s score came on an 18-yard pass from Jeff Hoback to Logan Bright.
The Cobras stay perfect at 7-0 and travel to Wapello on Friday. The Wildcats are 1-7 and host Wilton for homecoming this week.
