The ride through the 2019 season stayed smooth for the Sigourney-Keota Cobras Friday as they improved to 8-0 with a 42-6 win at Wapello. SK posted a great all-around game against the Indians, holding them to just six points, their second lowest output of the year and just 188 yards of total offense. The Cobra defense also forced a pair of turnovers with Brady Duwa and Wyatt Sieren each pulling in an interception. Trent Hendricks also had a big night for the Cobra defense with five tackles, all for loss and a sack.
The SK offense continued to roll, putting up more than 400 total yards including 399 on the ground. JD Stout and Sam Sieren combined for five touchdowns and 370 yards on the ground. Saturday, Cobra head coach Jared Jensen talked about the win. “Defensively we have improved a lot from last year. We held their running back to just 99 yards. It was a big showdown. We played well defensively and offensively. We had some special teams mistakes, but when we did have those mistakes and gave Wapello a short field, our defense came up clutch and shut down Wapello.”
With the win, SK is now 8-0 as they get ready for a showdown Friday with a district championship on the line on Senior Night when they host Mediapolis.
