Keokuk and Jefferson counties were awarded a donation by the Dakota Access Pipeline LLC. They were two of 18 counties across the state that each received a $20,000 contribution. According to Director of Emergency Management for Keokuk County Larry Smith, they plan to purchase new equipment for their Emergency Operations Center including a new phone system, incident command supplies and to upgrade communications equipment and HAZMAT supplies. Brett Ferrel, EMA Coordinator for Jefferson County, says that they are considering upgrades to their communication tower and dispatch center. The pipeline travels approximately 111 miles through southeast Iowa.
