Lone Tree junior Ashley Yedlik was elected President of the District Nine chapter of FCCLA at their meeting October 21st at the Kirkwood Regional Center in Washington. FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America. The Iowa organization is broken into 10 districts. The roots of the organization date back to 1917 legislation signed into law by then-President Woodrow Wilson which created federally supported, state-run programs for vocational education including family and consumer sciences. The group was officially founded as the Future Homemakers of America in 1945. The organization changed its name to FCCLA in 1999. Their mission is to empower youth to address work and society issues through projects. Members are afforded opportunities to expand their leadership potential, and develop skills necessary in the home and workplace.
