Area towns are hosting their annual trick-or-treat nights tomorrow and there are several steps you can take to make sure that kids and families stay safe. Washington County Sheriff Jared Schneider reminds those who will be out that it is important to be clearly seen by dressing in bright colors or using reflective tape and stickers to make sure drivers can see children clearly at night. Because there is a lot of traffic on the roads during the event, he says kids should remember to look both ways when crossing the street and watch for cars turning into and pulling out of driveways. It’s also important for parents and guardians to inspect the treats that kids receive, and it’s a good idea for parents to accompany children out trick-or-treating. Schneider reminds residents that Halloween pranks are not uncommon and are usually done so in a fun and good-natured manner, but if anyone sees any suspicious behavior or witnesses anyone damaging property you should notify authorities.
