The Dollar Tree in Washington is now open for business. The site plan for the store was approved by the City Council in April and construction quickly began. It was built in the Wiley subdivision, on property owned by Greg and Lori Wiley. At a council meeting earlier this year, City Administrator Brent Hinson explained that the store being built helped fund infrastructure on the east side of town, “Basically when that gets built that will create tax increment to essentially pay back for the cost of the water and sewer infrastructure that Greg needs to extend in order to meet his obligations as a subdivider. And it also covers our assessments that we were planning to do on the East Washington sidewalk, including assessments that Greg himself would have to pay as a property owner there. And so really, we’ve just created something that’s sort of a good deal for everybody.” Originally, the sidewalk along Highway 92 was going to be paid for with assessments by property owners along its path.
