The Highland cross country record books were rewritten Saturday at the state meet in Fort Dodge.
Madison Thomann broke the Highland High School 5K record with her time of 21:21.8 in the class 1A race at Lakeside Golf Course. The junior placed 63rd in the state, bettering her 96th place finish at the meet in 2018. She told KCII Sports all season long she had the fire to get back to Fort Dodge. “I think the motivation and dedication to make it to state again was there all along. Every race you have to keep pushing to get those higher places.”
Thomann gears up for her senior season where she aims for a third trip to state.
