Windy and snowy conditions Monday morning caused the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for all of the KCII-listening area. Many area schools had two-hour delays due to the conditions. In Washington, approximately 1.75 inches of snow fell and wind gusts blew up to 22 miles per hour. Iowa City had over three inches of snow, and Parnell received 2.3 inches of powder.

There were hazardous travel conditions with slippery roads and drifting snow. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen shares some advice if you have to go out in such conditions in the future, “Clean off the windshields and just take the time to let your car warm up. It’s not necessarily about the car running better when it’s warm, it’s about letting your car warm up and get some of that snow off, and get some of the ice off. And just be better prepared. And if it’s snowing or raining, if your wipers are on make sure your headlights are on.” She reminds drivers that headlights aren’t only so you can see in front of you, but so other vehicles can see you. Reisen says turn them on and make sure your headlights, turn signals, and brake lights are all clear of snow.
