A phone scam in Iowa has people misrepresenting themselves as Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) staff. The Iowa Department of Public Safety is warning people that scammers are attempting to extort money by posing as DCI staff. The callers say they are working with the FBI to collect money, some are using false agent names and badge numbers. Citizens are reporting that the caller ID displays a number for the Iowa Department of Public Safety. If you receive a phone call similar to this, contact local law enforcement and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office hotline 888-777-4590. The DCI does not request payment over the phone. Do not provide or confirm personal information or financial information to anyone who calls.
