A Jefferson County man is facing charges after leaving the scene of an accident Tuesday night and being found early Wednesday. Just before 7 p.m. the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a vehicle rollover wreck on Highway 34 at the 214 exit. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and had the vehicle towed. Nobody was found at the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and they explained that they had sold the car a few months prior but could not recall to whom. About an hour later, the dispatch center received another call advising that the caller’s uncle, Charles Lahr Jr. was the driver of the vehicle, had been badly injured in the accident, and needed medical attention. Deputies returned to the area and started a search. After an initial search, they called in backup including multiple fire departments and law enforcement officers, and Iowa State Patrol used an aircraft with infrared technology. The area was declared secured just after midnight. Agencies responding to the scene included Fairfield Police, Fairfield Fire, Packwood Fire, Libertyville Fire, Lockridge Fire, and Midwest Ambulance.
Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, Jefferson County deputies responded to the Lockridge Post Office for a call of a suspicious person in the lobby. Officers on scene interviewed the male and identified him as Lahr Jr., who appeared to be uninjured. He was arrested and charged with driving while suspended, failure to maintain control, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to transfer title and failure to provide financial liability insurance. Lahr is being held in the Jefferson County Jail
