Louisa County is continuing to move forward with the reimbursement process for spring flood repairs with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Assistant Louisa County Engineer Adam Shutt reported to the Louisa County Board of Supervisors that there were 35 sites around the county that suffered damage in the spring due to high water. Shutt told the board that 30 of these projects had been condensed into one larger, single project because of their size. Repairs for those totaled just over $50,000. Those numbers were self-certified by the county engineer’s office and they are awaiting review by the Environmental and Historic Preservation Agency.

The five remaining larger projects have a price tag of more than $1.4 million in combined damage repair assistance and mitigation funding. These projects include repair of the L Avenue access road into the Indian Slough Wildlife Area, H Avenue at 148th Street, a portion of F Avenue in the Thye Bottoms area southeast of Wapello, a bridge on S Avenue southwest of Morning Sun, and a culvert repair on 218th Avenue southeast of Columbus Junction. Though FEMA approval is still pending, the agency informed local officials they could move forward with preparations for the projects and anticipate bidding could begin as early as January.
