Farmers are busy harvesting corn and soybeans across the state, although weather only allowed 4.7 days of fieldwork last week. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 77% of Iowa’s corn for grain crop has been harvested which is 12 days behind the five year average. Farmers in southeast Iowa are a bit ahead of that mark with 83% harvested so far. The region trailing the most is south central Iowa with only 64% of corn harvested. High moisture in the corn crop has been an issue and propane shortages are making it tougher for farmers to dry it.
Iowa’s soybean crop is at 95% harvested, over a week behind average. In southeast Iowa 89% of soybeans are out of the fields.
